Type the payment or service you are making. You'll see the section, rate and threshold under the Income-tax Act, 1961 (FY 2025-26) next to the Income-tax Act, 2025 (Tax Year 2026-27, from 1 April 2026).

What actually changed on 1 April 2026?Rates and thresholds were carried over from the 1961 Act almost unchanged. The section numbers were not: Sections 192 to 194T are now Section 392 (salary) and Section 393 (everything else), and returns use 4-digit payment codes. Quoting old section numbers like 194C or 194J for payments made after 1 April 2026 gets the return rejected.

Late payment: 1.5% a month from the date of deduction to the date of payment, if paid after the due date [Section 398(3)(a)(ii); earlier Section 201(1A)(ii)]. A part of a month counts as a full month. The due date is the 7th of the next month, or 30 April for tax deducted in March.
